This major infrastructure project aims to:
- Improve transportation links
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Promote real estate growth in the southern part of the city
This infrastructure development holds immense potential. It will enhance connectivity and drive real estate growth in the area. Experts at IPS Cambodia believe this will create real estate investment opportunities in surrounding areas.
Overview of the New Bridge
The Bassac River bridge project near Tonle Bassac started on February 19, 2024, and was led by Prime Minister Hun Manet. It will connect Chak Angre Krom and Khan Chbar Ampov. The first pillar drilling for the bridge started at the end of January 2024. Construction is progressing as planned.
It’s the sixth big bridge in Phnom Penh. Previous ones include –
- Koh Pich-Koh Nora
- Two Monivong, Samrong
- Anlong Chen
- Koh Thom bridges
Phorm Rim, the spokesperson at the Ministry of Public Works, mentioned that-
These bridges are not just infrastructure. They are vital arteries that enhance connectivity and reduce travel time. These also contribute to the economic and social development of the city and its surrounding regions.
This project will showcase Cambodia’s continuous efforts to enhance the country’s infrastructure. These new constructions aim to improve-
- Residents’ quality of life
- Stimulate economic growth
- Strengthen connectivity between different parts of the capital and beyond.
Moreover, plans are in place for another bridge connecting National Road 23.
Connectivity and Accessibility Issue Resolved by the New Bridge
Only one bridge connects National Road No. 1 in the Chbar Ampov district across the Bassac River. Monivong Bridge serves as the primary connection and is stuffed with traffic. This new bridge project across the Bassac River (Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra) aims to alleviate traffic congestion.
This new bridge will improve transportation and logistics efficiency. It will enhance accessibility in the
- Phnom Penh area
- Techo International Airport
- Takhmao City
Strengthening Socio-Economic Relations:
The bridge project across the Bassac River (Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra) will also strengthen socio-economic relations between the southern part of Phnom Penh and the rest of the city.
