Sky Angkor Airlines Instructed To Prepare For International Tourism Reopening In Cambodia

The Cambodian Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, gave the go signal to Sky Angkor Airlines to prepare reoffering of tourist-passenger flights on Tuesday, September 21.

This is in light of the eventual relaunch of international tourism, which has long been a boon for the Kingdom’s economy. Even amid the pandemic, tourism has been at the center of infrastructure development and economic recovery plans.

Thong Khon reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia’s roadmap on the restoration and promotion of tourism in Cambodia during and after the covid-19 crisis as well as the master plan for tourism development in Siem Reap as well as in Mondulkiri.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia has been preparing to reopen international tourists (vaccinated tourists) in the near future, but in accordance with the safety tourism mechanism," added the tourism minister.

Under the safe tourism plan, tourists will be required a seven-day quarantine at a tourist destination having zero covid-19 cases.

Koo Taeoh of Sky Angkor Airlines also reported that after the Prime MInister’s earlier announcements regarding plans to reopen tourism borders, the company’s CEO traveled to South Korea to liaison with Korean and Chinese tour agencies.

The airline schedule includes domestic flights between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. They also offer direct flights to and from Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan, and various provinces in mainland China.

If the Kingdom’s tourism recovery plan progresses smoothly, Cambodia can anticipate a complete relaunch of the industry by 2025.
