Cambodia Hotels and Guesthouse is a wise choice when looking to buy a property or invest in a business. The country is one of the major tourist destinations among the Southeast Asian Countries.
In 2018, there are an estimated 6 Million international travelers from around the world staying at an average of 6-7 days and accommodations reporting 70-90% occupancy rate.
Tourism sector and the demand for tourist accommodation
From a mere 118,000 travelers in 1993 to a whopping 6 Million in 2018, the tourist arrivals are expected to rise by 4-5% yearly. With this in mind, the need for more tourist-friendly accommodations is expected to rise as well.
This growing need for accommodations then resulted in many villas being transformed to guesthouses and low-mid range boutique hotels are being opened in all the major areas across the country.
Whether it’s for businessmen needing a place to conduct conferences, tourists traveling across Asia, or backpackers looking for a cheap place to sleep, Cambodia can cater to their individual needs.
Phnom Penh Hotels and Guesthouses
Phnom Penh is the city center and the need for more guest accommodations is high, mostly due to the demand from the business sector visiting the country. Central Phnom Penh is approximately 9 km from the airport but that is not where most of the hotels and guesthouses are located.
Popular tourist areas are in:
Riverside Area - Riverside is probably the busiest and most popular tourist area in the city, where most of the bars, restaurants, and hotels are located.
This side of the city is alive night and day, with the usual scene of tourists roaming around and business establishments catering to their demands.
Riverfront accommodations are mostly mid to high range, and low to budget hotels are lined along the side streets where there is no direct river view from the window.
BKK1 - BKK1 area is a few kilometers southwest of the riverside. It is mostly known as the economic zone and is home to popular restaurants, bars, spas, and mixed accommodation, but of a little pricier range than most areas.
It is the choice of most NGO and IO workers, expats and business travelers. The hotels along St 278 cater to long term stayers. The growing need for upper range hotels and budget friendly places catering to tourists is expected in the next few years
BKK 2&3 and Russian Market - Other areas that are also popular with tourists are around Toul Sleng Museum and in the Russian Market where travelers are most active. The neighborhood between St 105 and 141, where travel-friendly, budget hotels are available is also a prominent tourist hub.
Siem Reap Hotels and Guesthouses
Siem Reap is located northwest of Cambodia and accounts for one-third of all tourist visits in the country. The airport is approximately 6 km (15 minutes ride) west and the Angkor Wat Archeological Park entrance is around 5 km north from the city center.
The volume of yearly travelers led to the increase of hotels and guesthouses being constructed in the city. This demand is met by the wide range of choices in accommodations that can satisfy most tourist requirements.
Since the land around Angkor Wat is included in the APSARA ZONE, it is excluded from the areas where hotels and guesthouses are allowed to be built. Most of the visitors stay in or near the city center.
The city center is relatively small and most hotels are within 5-10 minutes ride of the Old Market area. Hotels are evenly spread out across town.
The most popular areas for tourists include:
Airport Road and the road leading to Angkor Wat are also popular areas due to its convenience traveling to and from the tourist areas. This is especially popular to the backpacker crowd.
Wat Bo and Taphul Village Areas are backpacker havens due to its relatively cheaper rates compared to accommodations in the more popular Old Market areas.
Sivutha Boulevard is near the Angkor Night Market and is also a choice for mid to high priced hotel and guesthouse accommodations
Sihanoukville Hotels and Guesthouses
Sihanoukville is located in the center of a small peninsula jutting the Gulf of Thailand and is surrounded by beaches.
The downtown area is in the middle of the peninsula. Majority of the hotels and guesthouses are centrally located into 4 main areas: Downtown, the Ochheuteal Beach, Otres Beach and Victory Hill.
Ochheuteal is the most popular and offers the most varied type of accommodation. Otres is a little farther from town and a little quieter where a few villas, several hostels and guesthouses are located.
