Cambodia is 181,035 sq. km. in land area. It is comprised of 25 provinces, including the autonomous municipality of Phnom Penh. Although not a province, Phnom Penh has the highest population density and is thus administered at the same level as the provinces.
Phnom Penh may have the biggest population, but it is the second smallest in terms of land size. Mondulkiri is the biggest province in land area but is the second smallest in terms of population. Kep is the smallest in land size and population.

Kampot ProvinceKandal Province is located in the southwest area of the country and borders the provinces of Koh Kong, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kep, and Sihanoukville as well the international border with Vietnam on the east side.
The south side of the province has a 45 km coastline on the Gulf of Thailand.
Kampot is rich in lowlands and has plenty of natural resources.
Kampot town is the province’s capital. The province consists of 8 districts subdivided into 92 communes.

Kampot Peppers, organically grown, produced and sold in green, black, white and red varieties in the province.
The climate in this area offers perfect conditions for growing pepper and the quartz content of the soil in the foothills of the Elephant Mountains helps to give Kampot pepper its unique character.
This province is located in the southeast and surrounds the city of Phnom Penh. It borders the provinces of Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng. It also shares an international border with Vietnam in the south portion of the province.
Kandal is part of the greater Phnom Penh Metropolitan Area due to its proximity to the central business district.

Farming, fishing, and manufacturing are the main industries in the province. Most of the garment factories are built in this area.

Battambang is located in the northwest part of the country. It borders the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Siem Reap, and Pailin.
The north and south extremes of the province's west boundaries are part of the international border with Thailand.

The province is the 3rd most populous and the 5th largest province of Cambodia. It is also part of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve region.
75% of their land area is composed of jungles and mountains and mostly rely on the agricultural economy.
Battambang features a range of cultural and natural resources and its fertile rice fields boosts the province’s produce, earning them the title of "Rice Bowl of Cambodia".
Kep is the smallest and least populated province of Cambodia. It is home to the Kep National Park and is surrounded by Kampot Province except for the south side in front of the Gulf of Thailand.
The province is also where the Kep Peninsula can be found. This is a tiny archipelago comprising of 13 islands (Koh), the most famous of which is Koh Tonsay or more popularly known as Rabbit Island. The 2 white sand beaches and shallow sea is popular with tourists.
Rabbit Island is located ~4.5 km southwest of the province. A variety of corals, sea animals and plants, which attract researchers and ecologists, can be found at the sea bottom of the island.
The island was once used to rehabilitate criminals and defend the island. Horse cart paths and wooden, thatch-roofed motels were once constructed in this island but most of them had already been destroyed by weather and decades of war.
Currently, Rabbit Island is a primary tourist attraction that sustains the tourism sector of the province. Guesthouses, restaurants, and bars are now available, majority serves fresh seafood like crabs, shrimps, and fish.
Day tourists get the area busy but usually leave before 4 pm. Electricity runs only by generators and water in short supply from December to April. During this time, longtail boats arrive with big water tanks to provide the needs of the island.

The province of Kratie is located in the northeast and borders Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum and Vietnam to the south.
It is known for its beautiful riverside scenery, green villages and paddies, and the famous Irrawaddy river dolphins.
The province is comprised of many forests, the Phnom Pram Poan mountain range, Phnom Prech and rubber plantations. The Eastern portion of the province is an important bird area.
Most of Kratié population are subsistence farmers or fishers. 78% of residents are employed in agriculture. There is also gold mining in some areas but the province primarily grows perennial industrial crops like rubber.
The province can potentially be an ecotourism destination due to its proximity to the Mekong River and its vast supply of natural resources.
Takeo is composed of 9 districts and 1 municipality. It is located in the southwest portion of the country and borders the provinces of Kampot, Kampong Speu and Kandal.
The south boundary borders Vietnam.
It is often referred to as the "cradle of Khmer civilization" because the former kingdom of Funan is centered in this region.
Chisor Phnom - is a mountain located at the north side of the province. There are temple ruins at the summit dating back from the 10th-11th century. You can climb the 503 steps to see the mountain view or rent a moped for the 26 km ride to the summit.
Phnom Da - is a 17 m high temple that dates back to the Funan kingdom set atop a 100 m hill that reached by an hour boat ride from Takeo. It provides the scenic landscape of farmers working on partially flooded rice fields and fishermen on their boats.
Angkor Borei - is located along the road that leads Takeo town and was previously used as the center of trade in this area. There is also a museum that documented the Funan kingdom at the harbor.
