Needs vs. Wants: Things to Prioritize On Your First House Hunt

Buying a house can be daunting especially since there are many options out there. If it’s your first time, make sure that you stick to the basics of what you need for your home before expanding to what you want it to have. To make it easier for you, IPS Cambodia has curated the complete checklist of priorities you need to factor in when buying your first home.

Find the right location

The first thing you always have to consider is location. Whether you’re looking for a condo, house, or villa, you need to make sure it’s located in an area that’s accessible for your daily needs. It has to be close to your work, recreational activities you’re fond of, and conveniences like grocery stores and more.

Not only that but if you need a home in the city, you have to make sure that you’re in an area you can afford and it doesn’t have a high crime rate. On the other hand, if you need a place in rural areas, make sure it’s not too far from the places you need and it’s safe.

Determine the right floor space

Among the things you need to consider is the right floor place for you and your family. If you plan to live alone for now and in the coming years, you can get a home that doesn’t have a lot of extra spaces. On the other hand, if you plan on having or expanding your family, make sure to find a larger home that can accommodate it in the future.

Take note though that getting a larger home doesn’t necessarily equate to it being expensive. There are always listings for homes at a reduced price so make sure to check it.

Know how many rooms you need

Determine the number of rooms you or your family might need currently or in the coming years. After all, your home is something you would live in for a long time so you need to make sure it can accommodate your entire family if necessary.

Consider how much work is required

In the real estate market, there are listings for homes that require work to make it a proper place for you to live in. Whether it’s fixing the floors, repainting the walls, or more, you need to determine if the amount of work required to fix the house will be worth it. If it costs you more than the budget you have or it will take a lot of time that you don’t have, then it’s better to just find a different home that will best work for you.

Decide the essential amenities you need

When looking for the right first home to buy, you know best what you and your family needs. This means you need to determine what kind of non-negotiable amenities that the place you’re looking for will include like a park for children, dogs, or even a swimming pool.

Make sure to check thoroughly if it’s an essential amenity or only something that will be living in that area better. If it’s the latter, then do not base your buying decision on it since you have to prioritize your home essentials rather than anything else.
